Gaming monitors are not just a fad that will wither with time as they represent a viable market segment that is expected to generate billions in revenue in the coming years.

According to global research company International Data Corporation (IDC), shipments of gaming monitors will surge from 14.2 million screens in 2020 to 26.4 million in 2025, registering a CAGR of 13.2 percent. It added that the total shipments of gaming PCs and monitors grew by 19.3 percent from 2020 to 2021. Meanwhile, Future Market Insights’ latest data showed that the global market for gaming monitors is currently valued at $9.28 billion and is expected to reach $15.44 billion by the end of 2030, registering a CAGR of 6.6 percent.

Spurred by the rising interest in e-sports and online gaming competitions, manufacturers are investing in R&D to develop and launch advanced gaming monitors. Features such as 1920x1080, 2560x1440 and 4K resolutions, low input lag, improved response time and image quality, high refresh rates, G-Sync compatible display, HDMI 2.1 compatibility, FreeSync, VA panel or IPS display technology integration and screen size and are common specifications consumers look into when buying gaming monitors. The more advanced they are, the better the gaming experience.

The global gaming monitor market will continue to be dominated by the residential end-user segment. In terms of distribution channels, the online segment is preferred by consumers due to the convenience and accessibility it provides. Per region, the Asia-Pacific market accounted for the largest revenue share at the onset of the pandemic. Prime gaming spots like Japan, South Korea, China and Australia will also drive the demand for gaming monitors. The development of new innovative games and advancements in Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technology and High Dynamic Range (HDR), which are creating more active players and attracting more consumers, are also seen as drivers in the market growth.
